Until I read this book, I never realized the torment jurors went through in dealing with a case to making a decision. I was in the medical field, so autopsies never bothered me. For jurors to see autopsy photos of dismembered bodies it can be a harrowing experience, that can play psychological games to a person. One of the things our judicial system should do is to provide psychological assistance to jurors, free of charge; being that they believe being a juror is a duty.This book can open one's eyes to our judicial system from the legal and psychological viewpoint.
I have been following this case. I have seen the movie and a few television programs and I followed the trial. I am anxious to start this book.
Good insight on the thought process, and the impact evidence (or lack there of) has on a jury. These jury members break down what different pieces of evidence had an impact on them, which pieces of evidence didn't, how an attorney's appearance in a courtroom makes a difference, how being on a case like this affected their lives, and how they reached their verdict in this infamous case.
I enjoyed this book. Granted it did jump around a bit, but it was interesting to see how the trial affected the jurors. The one thing I came away with was, that Scott Peterson received a FAIR trial. The jurors took their job seriously and some no doubt will be forever changed by what they saw and learned and lived during this process. Goes to show that Scotts actions didn't just affect his and Laci's families but MANY other people.
This book for the most part did not tell me anything that I did not previously read or hear about in the news paper or on TV. However, it did give me an insight into this trial that has never before been available. The book provided me with a point of view of the trial from a sitting juror. Once I read the book I concluded that this jury was committed to working at a decision that was neither popular as has been suggested. These jurors were committed to rendering a decision based on evidence and one that was based on the Laws of the State of California as informed by the court. These 7 Peterson Jurors did a great job at explaining how a jury should function and why their decision to send Scott to California’s Death Row was (based on evidence and testimony) a just and right thing to do. In the end what they accomplished was justice.
A well-done book, not so much in style but in content. I wondered about the thought processes of the jury as they deliberated on the Scott Peterson trial, and I was afraid that Geragos would pull off an acquittal, a la O.J., but I was glad that didn't ultimately happen. I'm an eye-for-an-eye proponent and I think the world would be better off without this scumbag. The state of California shouldn't have to pay to shelter and feed this piece of trash.
Very well written, anyone who has an interest in this case needs to read this. Highest recommendations, this is hard to put down.
First of all, I'd like to sat I feel horribly for the jury. I know this decision must not have been easy. That said, I Found this book rather enlightening as to how the jury came to decision of guilt under circumstantial evidence and the decision of the death penalty.
