I loved this wonderful book. It is not only an expression of beautiful gardening, but it says a lot about Prince Charles. I loved the way it is presented, using the seasons as a backdrop.It has inspired me to work in my own garden, and whenever I feel tired and hassled with the cares of life, I see the ilustrations of this marvellous book and feel at peace knowning that somewhere in this world there is a corner of beauty and peace.

Sadly missed visiting Highgrove 2 years ago. I appreciate the tremendous thought and study put into the renovation of the gardens by the Prince and his advisors.

Lovely and beautifully written. The photos are stunning and the quality is superb. I do not think this will disappoint any Gardner, but will inspire instead. The info on organically taking care of such a vast estate is amazing. I'm happy to see the true soul and spirit of HRH in his love of gardening. It's wonderful to see his passion of keeping everything natural without chemicals, and nasty unfriendly composites to our environment.

Love how the book goes through different seasons. It also shows you how they lay the garden out. A good guide if you are going for the english garden layout/plans at your own home.

Beautiful book! Perfect for coffee table, and actually one to read and savor in it's entirety. Reading about the evolution of Highgrove and it's gardens is an insight into the garden design knowledge of HRH that many are probably not familiar with. The photos are lovely, andI find myself referring to them for inspiration over and over again.

I am a gardener and lover of English gardens in general. The gardens at Highgrove are inspiring and amazing. The Gunnera Manacata alone makes the book worth reading.Beautifully photographed, well described and a pleasure to own

After several books on spirituality and homespun values (most recently Sharing Good Times), President Carter turns his attention to the political arena. He is gravely concerned by recent trends in conservatism, many of which, he argues, stem from the religious right's openly political agenda. Criticizing Christian fundamentalists for their "rigidity, domination and exclusion," he suggests that their open hostility toward a range of sinners (including homosexuals and the federal judiciary) runs counter to America's legacy of democratic freedom. Carter speaks eloquently of how his own faith has shaped his moral vision and of how he has struggled to reconcile his own values with the Southern Baptist church's transformation under increasingly conservative leadership. He also makes resonant connections between religion and political activism, as when he points out that the Lord's Prayer is a call for "an end to political and economic injustice within worldly regimes." Too much of the book, however, is a scattershot catalogue of standard liberal gripes against the current administration. Throwing in everything from human rights abuses at Abu Ghraib to global warming, Carter spreads himself too thin over talking points that have already been covered extensively. Jimmy Carter may not have been the best president - events conspired against him - but he IS a great American.He lives and breathes his faith and patriotism.The man is past 90 and the only thing that has kept him from doing good works is the fact that he recently had a cancer diagnosis.And he's not afraid of dying!I've purchased about a dozen copies of this book over the years as gifts for friends.Some of them are scornful because he's a Democrat. I tell them to forgive him the 4 years he was in office and concentrate on the other 80+ years of his life. There's nothing to forgive, but if it gets them to read the book I don't care.The chapter on separation of church and state is the best explanation I've ever read.This book is about 10 years old but the state of our values has never been more in danger of vanishing into the narrow-mindedness so prevalent today.I happen to be a Catholic, not an Evangelical, but Jimmy Carter really touches me in ways that encourage me to live my faith.

Excellent easy read a must for folks who want to get the basics of most of the political, economic and especially "religious" issues that divide our country. Even though it was written 9 years ago it is absolutely relevant today. President Carter writes from the perspective of not only past president with intimate knowledge of American foreign policy and diplomacy, but also as a committed Christian, global practitioner of his faith of love and service to the lesser among us, and an honest broker for peace between governments and nations. Spoiler alert: not for those who believe in blind American Exceptionalism, nor for those who live in political party bubbles, nor those who prefer single source information based on the psychology of fear, hatred, bigotry, etc. Reading this presents the danger of bursting bubbles while offering legitimate discourse about the true fabric of our great nation....a long lost skill and desire by the people that at an earlier time maintained national sanity. Blunt and powerful.

This is a review of the unabridged CD audiobook version of this work.The positive aspect of this book is that it points out quite a few problems in the moral fabric of the today’s society and how that has deteriorated over since the 1970s. These include rising religious intolerance among the strongly religious (unfortunately little is said about the rising intolerance of so many of the secularly minded), growing conflict among religious groups (unfortunately little is said of the increasingly poor relations between the religious and non-religious), the decreasing separation of church and state, the decline in rationality, increased divorce rates and a plaethora of other problems (ie, increasing differences between the classes and increasing levels of poverty). Unfortunately, the book offers little beyond the obvious to alleviate these problems (i.e., middle and upper classes doing more through charity and actually meeting with the downtrodden). It should be added that the audiobook version of this work is relatively well read by the author himself.

I'm a moderate and agree on President Carter on most things. The book is well written, clear, and concise. It is a good summary of the major issues of today. I'm often dismayed at the hatefulness of so-called Christian fundamentalists. Carter also comments on another well-worn issue: abortion. I have never been able to get a right-to-lifer tell me why they consider that life begins at conception for an aborted fetus, yet they never mention the life of the spontaneously miscarried fetus. I think the stats are that 1/2 to 1/3 of all pregnancies are never viable and end in miscarriage. That's a million "unborn babies" who die each year in the US alone ( in addition to medical abortions), if life begins at conception. We have walk-a-thons for many diseases, but none for miscarriage. Is that because people do not really consider every zygote a viable human life? Why the double standard? What does the word "birth" mean?Near the end of the book, he mentioned that he does not visit in the homes of the poor nor do they visit in his house. That offended me since I am poor. Being poor doesn't make one stupid. As Erasmus said, when I get a little money, I buy books. If any is left, I buy food and clothes.

President Carter's observations are very relevant today even though it was published in 2005. His insights and perspective are unique and he offers in easily understood dialog an intriguing look at the forces and circumstances that steered not only his own administration, but those of subsequent Administrations.I was stunned at how it seemed I was reading a book that in large I could have written myself... Not from the life experiences of course, but President Carter reflects almost identically my own feelings and observations. Perhaps not that remarkable since we have very similar demographic backgrounds. Both of us clearly in the minority however when you look at recent polls of older Caucasian U.S. citizens, especially those of us who grew up in the South.I'm a few years younger than the former President, but grew up in a Baptist family in the South during the same basic time period. I was profoundly disappointed with his Presidency, but there is absolutely no question of the man's character and his immeasurable value to this Nation post-Presidency. He serves as an inspirational personification of all we should aspire to be. This book clearly Illustrates much of what is holding us back today with gridlock and partisan bickering. He reaffirms the true values that I recall being "American" values growing up. So much of this has become distorted in today's "conservative" hysteria that threatens to undo decades, if not centuries of progress in achieving equality in this "land of the free"...It is time true Americans take a hard look in the mirror and decide if freedom really means freedom, and if we will turn away from the increasingly fundamentalist politics espoused by an increasing number of political figures in today's landscape.

"Design Drawing" is a superb book, containing all the core essentials of drawing in one place. The clarity of the author's writing is superb, and his illustrations excellent (pun intended). However, it should be remembered that drawing and illustration are quintessentially kinesthetic. The techniques cannot really be understood, let alone mastered, without actually putting pen or pencil to paper. Each and every exercise should be completed, and not just once but repeatedly until they are mastered. Doing so develops the necessary eye for seeing what is to be illustrated, and also the eye-hand coordination required to transfer an image from the mind to paper. Also necessary for design drawing is a firm understanding of the conventions used in technical and architectural illustrations. These conventions and mathematical constructions can seem bewildering to the newcomer. Many books on the subject have not made the subject easier, nor have they eased the newcomer's fears of the subject. This book is outstanding in presenting the various drawing conventions clearly and simply, thus reducing or eliminating the mystery altogether. The examples provided are clear and illustrate the author's points well (as they should in such a book!). The book is divided into three main sections: The first section, "Drawing from Observation" (Chapters 1-4), which addresses illustrating what one sees, with exercises focused on training the eye and the hand. The second section, "Drawing Systems" (Chapters 5-8), describes the formal conventions used in technical and architectural illustration. The formal constructions are described clearly, and the exercises reinforce each point made and each technique. The final section, "Drawing from Imagination" (Chapters 9-12), takes the student to the next level. Again, the exercises are well chosen to develop and reinforce the ideas and techniques described in the text. A final note: The disappointed (1-star) reviewer who saw insufficient information on shading cannot have read the book well, if at all. The information is there, but each artist must develop his or her own techniques for establishing tonal values. Mr. Ching discusses the need for and use of such tonal values succinctly and clearly. All the information required is present, and permeates the book. For instance, Chapter 2 spends considerable time on the subject of "Tone and Texture," and on developing a tonal scale -- shading, in other words. Chapter 4, on "Space and Depth," addresses the use of tonal values -- shading -- to lend volume to images presented on a flat surface. Chapters 6, 7, and 8 each have a section on the use of shade and shadows. The whole last section draws on and includes the lessons on shade and shadows and tonal values introduced earlier in the book. Quite simply, the 1-star review is not understandable, in light of the content of the book. As with any book describing technique, there is no simple, easy way to acquire the necessary talent and techniques. This book will not instantly infuse the reader with certain skills. However, it will guide the student who follows the exercises and practices in developing a visually rewarding capability.

I love this book! The drawings really help explain the text. The technical aspects of different drawing techniques are explained and there are many illustrations. I have not yet looked at the CD but the book itself is worth the price. Everything has a hand-drawn look and is helpful for a student like myself that is learning drafting. I bought the book because I was especially interested in the paraline drawings and I am not disappointed. There are also exercises you can do for yourself to learn the content better.

I bought this book when my grandchildren were still small and thought it was a really sweet story at the time. I felt that it made them feel good about their favorite toys that had grown worn and tattered with use. My grandchildren are almost teenagers now, so I've been sorting through a few of their "kid" toys and books to get rid of. I picked up this book and decided to read it again, and this time I read in it a message that I hadn't seen before.Santa is making his usual rounds on Christmas Eve, distributing all the toys to boys and girls around the world. He makes one last stop to the house of a little boy to whom he had given a colorful teddy bear named Peef, one he had personally hand made and especially loved. He was eager to see the bear again and hear the familiar sound of "Peef." But when he picked up the bear from the sleeping child, he saw that it was dirty and torn and no longer made a sound. He contemplated sewing and repairing the bear, but the little bear spoke up and explained to Santa all of the wonderful experiences he had had...all of the fun and exciting days he had with the boy. The "seasons" had been rough on his now ragged and faded body, but the "greatest and most wonderful thing is....knowing who you are, and being where you ought to be, and doing what you ought to do..." He tells Santa that he does not need repaired, he is "the bear I should be."Wow! Reading this again 10 years later...and 10 years old...I take from this a wonderful lesson. In the beginning pages of this book many characters are mentioned but not really introduced to the reader. This was confusing and frustrating. Obviously, they are characters from another book but are not sufficiently described in this book to flow well in this story. Additionally, repeated reference is made to the deaths of 2 people that apparently had a big impact on the characters in this book but it is not ever clearly defined in this book. And, who is JP? He is also repeatedly mentioned in this book. One final note is the continual mention of trust issues with the characters in this book...too many times. Overall, it was a struggle to finish this book. Maybe it would be more interesting if I had read all 8 of the previous books in the series. I had read 3 of them before reading this one.

The "Northstar Angels" books are great books, each one involving a different couple from "North star, Montana." The stories intertwine so that the couples are all involved in each book with a different couple being the main characters in the different books. They definitely have good characters and a great plot but they are light reading.

This book is part of a series that is all about how people in this small franchising conmuity in Montana

This series is billed as stand-alone's but there is a lot of serious background information mentioned that leaves the reader hanging.There has not been any editing errors or graphic violence. There is a lot of trauma with miscarriages and deaths.I may try reading this at a later date.Remember this is my personal opinion and does not reflect on the authir.

I’m not sure ranch life would ever be for me, but I felt as if I knew this ranch. To be happy, you have to be where you are happy. For Becky, that was ranching and being home facing the past as she moved forward. It was the same for Shane. Mistakes may have set their life on an unwanted path, but love brought their path back together.

I really enjoyed this 4 book series. However, by the time I got to book 4 there were so many characters involvedI often had to stop reading and put everyone in perspective. It was well written and held my interest so had to order and read the entire series.

I loved this book. It was like watching a broken family reunited by true love. My only fault was that I do not like to read the Lord's name used in vain. But I so loved the story, the emotional impact, and want to read all the other books

Easy to get lost in the stories! I can't get enough!!I sure hope they never stop. All the characters are easy to relate to.

Those folks will give it a 3 or so.Lastly, some language is just as I remember in college and my days in the Marine Corps. Everything started or ended with F*** and talking some pretty harsh smack was common. Again, this is some great nostalgia, plus really funny if you can get into that mindset of speaking. (Again, this can make it a 5 star book of fun.) If you have neither the nostalgia to relate to or something against swearing, the book will be several stars lower.I really enjoyed this book. A trip down memories lane linked with a good story. For me, 5 stars. But then everyone like me will give it 5 stars for the reasons I point out above. I'm going with 4 stars because that is how it will shake out with readers over all. Perhaps not a love or hate it kind of book, just one that either scores high or doesn't.

It's okay. Good content, though a little bit slower-paced than the first book. Main complaints include serious spelling/grammar mistakes to the point I got the impression the author & editor just didn't care to check for or correct them, worst example being a full page with bad formatting that caused most words to be cut off at the first letter and moved to the next line; also no page numbers printed at all. This wouldn't have been as much of a problem if I hadn't forgotten it on a truck dashboard over a weekend, causing exposure to extreme heat to soften the binding glue, causing the pages to come out and half the book to fall out of the binding upon opening. It's near impossible to try and reorganize the pages now without page numbers, which is very disappointing because I was almost finished reading it. Other than these issues, some funny jokes, decent character development, and a good dose of D&D culture if you're in a situation where you can't play for a period of time like me.

Critical Failures II: Fail Harder (Caverns and Creatures #2) by Robert Bevan picks up where book one leaves off. I bought the audio version and giggled and belly laughed all the way through this book! I listened to it while trying to clean house but had to stop and laugh so many times... That was the best time I have ever had house cleaning! I also listened to it at night before bed and couldn't stop. This book is addictive. Slapstick funny, childish, crazy, things you would never expect, but hilarious just the same!These gamers were magical sucked into a game by the game master. Now they are trapped. They are the characters they played in the game. Orc, half-elf, etc. They meet up with others that the evil game master sent over. The story is so great! I am giggling thinking about the story!I bought all four books and can't wait to hear the next book. I usually never buy audio because it takes so long to 'read' because I read so fast I could have several books read in the same time but the voices that are used in this book is so funny in themselves it just adds to it. I adore these books, esp. on audio! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. These books are probable made for adult males that play D&D but I have never played games and I am a 60 yr old woman and laughing at this silly book. Funny as hell! I think this one was better than book one!

Another great book by Robert.I found myself reading 'over' the jokes and swear words because the story was drawing me in even further than the first. I was hoping this was going to happen and it did. We see more character development, more relationship building, and well, I'm almost making it sound boring when it wasn't. It was just plain awesome.I felt we lost the obvious 'antagonist' but the conflict was still high so I didn't miss that too much. There may have been more opportunity with the Four Horseman but I loved the Millard scenes. Some serious ethical issues were just blown off. Great. Get sick of reading about the pros and cons. Cooper is quickly becoming a favourite but all the characters are great.I'm undecided about the whole 'horse' idea but since another character doesn't like it either, it's all okay — again, clever writing. It works so don't change it.I'd like to see a bit more Chaz development. I think he actually adds a different dimension to the story. But book 3 has been written so I'll have to wait to see if there is more on him. I have already bought it...Again, another great ending and again, poor Tim.

If you have a sense of humor you will like this entire series. Some say the writing is juvenile because it uses potty humor - i disagree, i found the plot twists to be genuine "twists" and yet believable (as far as character development and motivations). Masturbation, sexual innuendos, swearing, and deification are all located within the text and story line - some is gratuitous, but all is within the consistency of who the characters are and how they would act. Using innuendos does not make writing sophomoric unless it has not purpose within the story - that is not the case here. If you are easily offended then you should probably stay away from reading fantasy stories in the first place. Review for books 1-5.
