It was very interesting and I enjoy reading about local history not found in the usual text books. The only thing I found wrong was that he wrote that the little girl who's spirit is said to be in Point. Defiance park is named Carol . Now I can understand why he may have done that. You know " The name is changed to protect the innocent" kind of thing. It would have been better not to name her at all than to send ghost hunters going through the park calling for Carol. Now if her spirit is really there, she may not respond if you call her Carol. I pray that her killer may be caught so she can truly rest in peace. It makes me wonder if some other things he wrote may be inaccurate . If you want to know who the little girl really is read Haunted Tacoma.

It's important to keep this type of information current, and Jeff has done so in this book of haunted locations around the Puget Sound. He has coordinated his efforts with the major ghost hunting groups such as AGHOST (the largest in the region), the Museum of the Mysteries as well as individuals and his personal investigations.I thought when I bought this that it might be a re-hash of existing information, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the book is up to date and written in an entertaining manner. I highly recommend it.

I wasn't sure if this book would be any good when I ordered it, but I was pleasantly surprised ! It was great, easy reading with a lot of facts and pictures. I'm planning my first trip tp Seattle this summer...and I'm going to try to hit all the areas in the book.

Really interesting insights into the Grocery business. Who knew all the finagling and wrangling that needed to source the fruits and vegetables we take for granted in the produce section? How many people of my generation had even heard of A&P, the Walmart of retailing years ago? And who can comprehend the sheer volume of food that rolls down those checkout conveyor belts each day?My only criticism is that the middle third of the book goes into a Michael-Pollanesque discussion about healthfulness of natural foods and avoiding the food-like substances. I agree with the line of reasoning, but I've heard it already -- from Michael Pollan. Thankfully, the third portion of the book returns to the fascinating, often-nerdy aspects of what makes the local supermarket tick.The book afforded me a great deal of insight (and appreciation!) for something that I used to take for granted.

Like grocery stores themselves, Michael Ruhlman’s Grocery is all over the place, stuffed to the rafters, with numerous departments and unexpected items. It is a lot of memoir, a smattering of rants, endless lists, and a bunch of behind the scenes negotiating. Like a grocery, there’s something for everyone.Because he doesn’t have a horse in this race, Ruhlman can be neutral or critical as needed. He slams the food desert of the center aisles of supermarkets, yet admits he buys some of this poison himself because he likes it. He is critical of agriculture, but finds much to praise in a new generation of farmers who prize quality over quantity. And he digs at medicine and nutritionists in a front al attack: “Fat isn’t bad, stupid is bad.”We learn the economics of the business, how size matters, how grocers find products, and how they run their stores. The business has changed dramatically in our lifetimes. We might not have noticed because we’re in those stores every week. It’s a trillion dollar business in the USA. From the hot take-out meals (and even restaurants and bars) to the organics and the gluten-free, the mix is anything but stagnant. And it’s up to 40,000 items now, from the 5000 when he was a child. Beef sales are way down, fish is way up. Fruit is no longer seasonal. Frozen food is still blah, and there are still hundreds of sugary breakfast cereals and snack foods to wade through. Sadly, grocers are forced to stock them all because customers will go elsewhere if their particular variety is AWOL.There are aspects he has missed, like what grocers do with stale-dated foods. There’s nothing about community involvement, how the stores weave themselves into the fabric of the neighborhood. There’s no mention of all the games grocers have played, like specials and Green Stamps and loyalty programs. Or home and online shopping. And he never addresses customer complaints, like why there are 24 checkout lanes when only four are ever open at once. And it really could use some photos.Grocery is a kind of love letter to Cleveland, Ruhlman’s hometown. He goes back to the grocers of his youth, and makes them the focal point of the book. On the one hand it is cloying, but on the other he had to make some grocer his example, so why not the chain he grew up loving? I bought this book to educate myself on the world of grocery retailing as I'm in the middle of the interviewing process with a medium-sized grocery store chain based in North Carolina (that was mentioned once in this book). I've been in retail advertising for over 20 years, working in categories of everything from lawn mowers to women's performance apparel, but never groceries. The book isn't just educational, it's thoroughly entertaining, as well. I didn't realize how much I invested in Ruhlman's relationship with his father until the last two chapters. It got me. I loved this book from beginning to end. (You'll want to google images of the Heinen's in downtown Cleveland after you're finished; it doesn't disappoint.)

This new devotional book by Priscilla Shirer is excellent. Each day's writing is short enough to be read in 5-10 minutes, but my favorite part is the space to write. Shirer has provided prompts to engage the text and space to wrestle and think. Highly recommend. Makes a great gift.

There's not enough that I can say about this book that will give it justice. In fact, I can't even think of the right word to put it in perspective. You just need to read it. Priscilla Shirer has allowed God to use her in such a way that is mind boggling. This book has changed my life. I'm at the end with only two days of devotionals left and I'm in tears right now because it has touched my heart and soul that much. I gave copies to my two young adult daughters and I plan to give out more to other women in my family and my girlfriends as gifts. Every woman should own this. I will read this over again and as I do, I will reflect on my notes and enjoy the experience. Get this book, ladies. You won't regret it. It will bless your soul just like it did mine. Oh, and I want to thank Mrs. Shirer for allowing God to use her in this way. I have all of her books and I'm currently reading them. I also watch her bible teaching videos and sermons. I am so grateful for this woman of God.

Even right now after a week of being done reading through it I had to pick it up again. It pulled things out of me that I didn’t know where there. Just get it. I promise you wont regret it. Priscilla Shirer is an amazing author and speaker- she teaches God’s truths very well in easy to understand ways. I am glad I decided to purchase this book! The topics vary and are helpful for growing in your walk with God and getting to know Him better each day. It isn’t the only bible or prayer time I have in the least, but it does help get my day flowing the right way.

I look forward to reading this devotional book from an unquestionably talented author. I find it odd that I received two copies of this book, though, when I believe that I only ordered one. If the additional copy cannot be returned, I'll be sharing it with a friend.I appreciate Elizabeth Shirer's insights as I skim through the book. I stopped about halfway through to appreciate her encouragement to persevere in the "In Between" times - bolstered by what God has done and anticipating what God will do. The "plodding through the wilderness" can be a challenging time. Thank God for those who understand and seek to encourage during the dry times.

I needed this book for my MBA program with specific instruction NOT to get the International edition due to the exercises and HW given. I'm usually one to go ahead and pay the extra $ to get my books from the school bookstore, to assure I get the correct one and in plenty of time, but upon looking at Amazon this book was considerably cheaper here so I thought I'd give it a go. I typed in the correct ISBN that I needed (pretty hard to get the wrong book when you use an ISBN, or so I thought) and this option came up, along with the correct option (hardcover). This option was a little bit cheaper (my guess was because it was paperback) so I clicked on it. Being cautious, I spent quite a bit of time checking to make sure what I was getting was correct. There was another review saying Chad S. used this book for the same program at the same school (assuming CSU means Colorado State University), and the product description had the same title, edition #, authors, # of pages, cover picture... The webpage did have a line stating "same material as US edition" that made me a little weary but nowhere could I find anything saying this was the international edition and given Chad's review I thought I should be fine.When it arrived the cover was different than the picture on the webpage (see pic). I thought this may still be ok and may just be a new print run for the cover, but then it all started to come together/fall apart. The back cover says this book is only for sale in the eastern hemisphere and published in India. I took it to my first class and everyone else even though getting their books from different sources, had a hardcover. The first set of exercises were given in class and while everybody had charts and text about bar graphs my bargraph info. was on a different page and missing some of the charts. I hopped back on Amazon and now noticed in the details the publishing location between the my book and the hardcover option differ. Also for mine there isn't a specific ISBN listed on the webpage; however, this option still comes up when you type the correct ISBN. My physical book's barcode definitely has an ISBN that does not show up in the product details section and does not match what I entered.I guess shame on me a little, but give me a break. Although I didn't spend much time with this incorrect book, I still didn't see anything blatantly stating "International Edition". Props to Chad S. and the others who have made it through the same or similar course with this book. Not only are the page numbers a little different but I did notice in the one chapter I read with this copy that it included 2 extra paragraphs that the real book doesn't have, so I can only imagine their are other subtle differences throughout. I'm in the process of returning this, have ordered the correct one (more $) and will have to borrow a classmates book for my first week or two's homework. Not thrilled.Update: While Amazon makes returns (even to 3rd party's) fairly easy I'm a little annoyed that although I consider my return their error I still ended up footing the bill for shipping both ways. Took nearly 1 month for a few dollars return. Barely worth the hassle. Just learn from my mistake and forget about this book.

*** UPDATE ***Now I'm confused. I ordered my book from the US edition product page Statistics for Managers (white cover with a shopping cart), and posted my review accordingly. It turns out there is ANOTHER product page, Statistics For Managers Using Microsoft that has all the correct info for the international edition people receive - the ISBN, the green cover photo, etc. The most confusing part is BOTH PAGES USE THE SAME POOL OF CUSTOMER REVIEWS, even though the pages are currently NOT linked to each other as different versions of the same book. So depending on which page you're reading this on, you may be getting a different impression of the unhappy reviewers' sanity.The prices on the international edition page Statistics For Managers Using Microsoft are lower, for what ends up being the same book offered by the same sellers. My original review was 4 stars, downgrading it now to 3.*** ORIGINAL REVIEW ***Like many others, I received an international version. For my purposes, it doesn't have to be an exact match to the US edition, so I'll keep it, but if someone is looking for a specific US course book, beware. Must be the ink they used for printing this edition?As this book is only offered by third party sellers, they might all be offering different versions, who knows. Eventhough my class is over, I am continuing on with the book due to how important the subject matter is to me. This book seems to have everything but the kitchen sink. The only down side of this book is that at the current time it is hella expensive. I will be turning in my beloved hard copy for a paperback and rock on.

I'm currently reading through this text book in the order it is presented, and it seems like the content and writing are good... however, the order in which things are presented is pretty confusing. They start using lots of terms that they haven't defined yet, for example, throughout chapter 3. This makes both reading and taking notes pretty confusing if you're not familiar with the terms they're using. I'm a researcher my training but haven't done UX research before. I think this book will teach me what I need to know, but I wish they put more effort into trying to better organize the way that they present topics, definitions, etc.In addition, there is no glossary at all which is pretty annoying, and key terms aren't ever bolded or defined succinctly.

I purchased this book for my Human Computer Interaction Design course for a nursing informatics program that I am in. The book is easy to read, gives a great review on statistical methods, great tips using Excel, and is also a great resource on proper graphing solutions for each metric. It has thorough and understandable instructions on how to plan, create, and implement user experience studies.I'm a nurse, not a statistician or designer and found this book great! I'm bummed the class is over.

book gives a nice refresher on basic statistics in the beginning downhill from there. they list lots of potential usability metric, most are obvious, and proceed to explain in detail how to measure each. likely useful for a beginner but too shallow for professionals.

Decent book to get started on UX. Gave good details on what to do.

Very well written book that includes examples and illustrations as well as considerations when to use different metrics and methods. I have worked in the field of user experience for eighteen years now and consider this book a go to.

At first metrics and metric analysis seemed like something a statistician could only do. This book helped break down a usability study and how measure it really well. This book was the assigned reading for UW's User Centered Design certificate program and was an asset when I had to design my own usability study. This book is already a great reference that I am constantly referring to.

I don't do well with ebooks and comprehension so I prefer to have print. This follows the Cisco etext perfectly even shows many of the interactive slides from the online textbook.

The book I recieved was unsealed, and had scratches and dents even though I bought a new book. However the content seems clean and unmarked.

Educationally loveable

After reading first 2 ch I realized that author keep repeating himself and I lost interest in reading.Waste of money and I don't know why my instructor picked this book.

This is a good guide for the CCNA1 course, and supports the information presented in the netacad.com Modules.
