I expected a bit more from this book. The charts aboutthe number of kills and how the kills were done seemsout of step with the style of the books. The history ofthe characters was more interesting and should have beena larger part of this book.The other similar book "Nero Wolfe of 35th Street" wasfar more educational and interesting.

There is some things this book is not - it is not meant to explain and summarize each and every story. Its main focus is on the characters, mostly on Nero, Archie and those of the extended detective family. While it lists information about the different stories and events, the author refused to spoil it for you. If you want to know more you HAVE to read the books. The book also shows us the history of Nero Wolfe on the radio, on TV and even on the big screen. It has chapters on both his love of food and on his harem of flowers. It also has a small bio on Rex Stout and tries to trace the life, and loves, of Archie Goodwin. A wonderful book but no replacement for reading the mysteries. Enjoy it like a fine meal.

I'm a hardcore Stout fan. This book was so disappointing. It was more about what the author wanted to include in it versus what might be of interest to a reader or fan. He has silly things like charts of how many people were killed, the manner in which they were killed, and where they were killed.Hardly worth $18 for the pb or the $30 for the hardback.

Enjoyable reading & helps refresh my memories of Nero's cases while tying people & things together in the Nero Wolfe universe!

This is probably the best version of the Gita to share with people, both Hindu and non-Hindu. Sure, it has some problems, as some other reviewers point out, but overall, this is my favorite version of the Gita. Sleek and slender, it is easy to carry around everyone and thankfully lacks the often biased and partisan commentary found in some other versions of the Gita. If you want to go deeper into the Gita and the philosophy of Hinduism, then there are other versions of the book which, as a student interested in religion and religious history, I have read, but those those versions are of a more academic nature. If you want a copy of the Gita to keep by your bedside or table, or to skim through when you're feeling contemplative, then this edition is the one for you. If you want a somewhat annotated but not fully academic version, then the Easwaran and Radhakrishan versions are what I would recommend to you. In any case, this version is excellent because it manages to keep the poetic consistency of the original Gita while doing away with jargon yet without doing away with the meaning, even in a subtle form, of the Gita.Ironically, the Gita is a text more rooted in Vedic Hinduism, Samkhya, and to an extent, Yoga than it is in later traditions such as Vedanta and Vaishnavism, of which it has become an essential text for the latter two. All of these are later debates in Hindu theology which ought to not have any effect on the core and fairly straightfoward meaning of the Gita itself. I often find it more enjoyable to read the Gita when I'm not under that shadow of these later commentaries which in my opinion, over-analyze the Gita. I would like to note that this version is not modified in any way or concepts changed to suit the modern or non-Indian reader. It is merely written in an elegant, simple, jargon free English. Excellent Gita: I highly recommend to both Hindus and non-Hindus.I have one problem with the translation: the Sanskrit word yoga, used extensively throughout the text is consistently translated as "discipline" in English. This can produce a significant distortion and misunderstanding of the meaning of the text.

I recently lost a loved one to pancreatic cancer. For 8+ months I was the primary care giver. My support group for care givers were discussing a particular topic and it was this particular translation by Barbara Miller the facilitator was using as reference.This transcendent story gave me the courage - just trust that Krishna/God/Universe/Creator - (whomever or whatever you want to call your higher being) - to trust that my 'chariot' is being driven by my higher self and relinquish my human self-talk/doubt and have some blind faith in knowing, much like Arjuna's teachings with Lord Krishna - it's predetermined and should our human self should not interfere - there is a master plan and our inner self/soul is the driver of that vehicle.In my case, I delivered care with unconditional love and compassion and now I mourn in the same fashion.This is apparently from all human perspectives, a significant event for my soul's journeyI will still keep this book handy for inspiration as I am left to find a 'new normal' without my loved one.

I bought this for my daughters. It is a good introductory version of the Gita. I have read quite a number of editions, and sadly do not remember which were the most interesting to me and why. This particularly volume is not as rich with respect to imagery as many of the others. I wanted to be careful about how some volumes use artistic liberties in an attempt to teach the reader. The reason is that the dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna can lead one to discover for themselves its allegorical wisdom A process of self discovery. This addition at the very least, does no harm. In a couple places it used the word "individual," in a way in which I suggested that they interpret it as 'ego' instead.

I bought this book for my religions class, and knowing absolutely NOTHING about Hindu cultures, beliefs, traditions, etc. I expected to be absolutely lost when reading this book. However, the translation is very, very clear and really brings this interesting and inspirational story to life. Enjoyed it very much :)

The translation was scholarly yet accessible. The story itself is an examination of the true self and one's place among the Universe. A good introduction to Eastern Religious Philosophy.

An very good contemporary translation but deviates considerably from any classical Indian tradition. No Sanskrit or Sanskrit transliteration, so it is impossible to analyze the relationship between her translation and the original Sanskrit words.

translation is a little stiff and antiquated. much prefer eknath easwaran's which allows certain Sanskrit terms to remain while giving the terms context and definition. additionally his translation is far more fluid and inspiring, in my humble estimation.
