This is a book that people should read even if they won't read another one again in their lives. This is the biography of a humble and discriminated man during the most difficult times for negroes in america. What makes this story most appealing to me is the fact that the character of the story is a mix breed black man from Puerto Rico as well as I am. I urge and encourage those who are interested in the black man history in America to read and be amazed and surprise with what they are going to find in the book. Ten gold stars

Great insight into the struggle for a people's self fulfilling prophecy and the relentless attempts of the ruling class to separate the masses and diminish the efforts of those oppressed to forever remain separate and unequal.

This book is a bibliophile's dream! The life of Arthur A. Schomburg is wonderfully described as a biracial immigrant from the carribean who gets involved with radical politics in New York and goes on to become a primer collector of African and African American literature! This book also introduces the reader to other black biblopiles during the Harlem Renissance. Book lovers will delight in this biography!
