I bought this for my father in law's Christmas present because he likes telling me all about the history of the cape when I visit his beach house and he also enjoys reading. Overall, a great purchase in my opinion.

This book is terrible. It is poorly written, contains factual errors, and strains to be true to the title. I can only imagine that this was self-published after many rejections.

About the Author

Joe Bertagna has been a collegiate hockey administrator for more than 30 years. Since 1997, he has served as commissioner of Hockey East, the preeminent conference in college hockey, whose member schools have earned seven NCAA championships under his leadership. Before his move to Hockey East, Bertagna served 15 years with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), where he held the positions of tournament director, executive director, and commissioner. Both with ECAC and Hockey East, Bertagna has been a champion of women’s hockey, having initiated ECAC Division I and Division III league play and led the formation of the Women’s Hockey East Association, whose championship trophy is named in Bertagna’s honor. In addition to his commissionership of Hockey East, Bertagna is executive director of the American Hockey Coaches Association, a position he has held since 1991. He also serves on the board of directors of both USA Hockey and the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation. For 40 years Bertagna has operated his own clinics for thousands of goalies of all ages. Bertagna began his professional coaching career in 1985 with the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Boston Bruins, where he was goaltender coach until 1991, and then again for the 1994-95 season. He also was assistant coach for the U.S. men’s national team at the 1991 Canada Cup, the U.S. Olympic men’s ice hockey team at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, and the International Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals from 1994 to 1996. As a player, Bertagna was a standout goaltender for Harvard University. After graduating in 1973, he played professionally for the Milwaukee Admirals and in Cortina, Italy, where the team won the Italian Ice Hockey Championship in 1975. Bertagna and his wife, Kathy, reside in Gloucester, Massachusetts, with their three children.

The Hockey Coaching Bible is a compilation of chapters written about college hockey from some highly prestigious coaches who are experts in the field. Though the book seems to be marketed for coaches at any level, I think it would be a worthwhile read for any hockey parent or spectator who wants to learn more about the game. The early chapters discuss such topics as recruiting practices, team mission, professional responsibility, funding and community support and putting together a new team. They were interesting and informative. However, I really enjoyed the sections which discussed the ideal skills necessary for each position on the team and specific drills, plays and tactics used in practice and competition. As a college hockey season ticket holder, it will increase my ability to understand and appreciate what I am watching. I know some hockey moms who admit to not really knowing the game; this book would certainly help!Lastly, for those of you like me who have been enjoying the game for decades now, interwoven in the chapters is reference to the evolution of the sport as well as developing trends for the future. These brought back happy memories of my youth and made me feel like I had some insider info for the future.

I received this as a review copy. I am not a hockey coach but live in hockey country and know many people involved in the sport. I think this book would be very useful for anyone coaching or attempting to start up a club program (for any sport for that matter, but obviously in particular for hockey)...there are a lot of descriptions of different aspects of the game, as well as aspects of developing your team, team philosophy, etc. As a spectator, I found many of the descriptions of strategies and different playing styles interesting and useful in my understanding of the sport, and there were a lot of neat little tidbits about hockey history as well. My hometown of Austin, MN even gets a nod in the annals of hockey history!I liked that each chapter is written by a different prominent coach, and there is a description of each coach's experience in the back of the book.

I love this book. After 16 yrs in the military, I still couldn't figure out exactly what type of job I might pursue. I didn't want to fall into the traditional post-military job routine. I know guys who have retired after their 20 years and then go to work 1 week after retirement, working in almost the same field they were in their whole careers! Why? For the ease for most of us. Having to figure out what you may WANT to do after you have been doing something not in your preferred field for so long can be difficult and stressful. This book is perfect for applying some solid, critical thought process to figure out what job will really be best for you. I do mean best for you; mind, body, spirit, etc. This book doesn't just get you to chase the almighty dollar. I sacrificed a higher paying, higher stress job for the job I chose to apply for based off of one pass through this book. I've never looked back. I couldn't be happier; I'm doing something I ENJOY doing and am getting paid what I want to get paid.MILITARY - buy and read this book. It gives you the tools you need in order to apply logic and processed thought into a much tighter job search.MILITARY LEADERS - gift this book to your soldiers, sailors, marines, etc., that are getting out. Give it to them early enough for them to work through the book and then follow-up and help them develop a plan. I can't think of a better investment for a future civilian.

I had gotten an earlier edition of this book five years ago when and it was extremely helpful, so when I started to job search I went to this one automatically. I was specifically hoping to get up to date advice on resume writing since I was in the process of updating mine. Info on that pretty much summed up as "the trend is moving away from traditional resumes". Good to know but not helpful in the way I had hoped it would be. Being in a more traditional field that still is very much into resumes, I ended up using an online template service to get a feel for the newer formats and phrasing supplemented by the few tips that were in the book.As a manual for new grads or people re-evaluating their profession I think this is still an incredibly valuable resource, I just didn't find it as helpful for my particular situation.

Hands down the best career / job hunting / personal development book I've ever read.I had been considering a career change for a little over a year, but was still feeling a bit lost on what to transition into and where to go despite lots of soul searching and researching on my own. I picked up this book due to the high recommendations, and it has been an absolutely wonderful source of information and clarity for me.The job hunting tips in the first section of the book are brilliant. The author writes in a very tangible way and provides techniques and practices that readers can start using right away. He also pays very specific attention to the present time, and what works right now, and what doesn't work. The job market is dynamic, and he understands that and abridges the book every year with updates information to reflect that. Since reading through the author's job hunter tips in the first section, I've felt like I've had a personal revelation with how I approach jobs and interviews, and I feel so much more confident and effective with my job hunting skills than ever before. (And to be honest, I was pretty confident before).The next section of the book contains the infamous "Flower Exercise", an extensive 7 petal (7 exercises) exercise that lets the reader figure out exactly what it is they want to do with their lives, and what they want out of their jobs. Exercises include topics such as "What are my Transferable Skills?", "What is my Preferred Working Environment", to even "What is my Mission in my Life". There's also exercises to determine other aspects as your favorite interests, what kind of salary you need to survive (with a comprehensive budget chart), and the type of people you want to work with. It covers all the aspects of what is the perfect career path or job for you, understanding that aspects such as the work environment and the people you work with are just as important (to complete job happiness) as the job responsibilities and salary! The exercises are not for the faint of heart though, and most exercises are going to require a few hours of your time working on them. One exercise involves writing 7 short stories, then analyzing those stories for clues about your personality, interests, and skills. I think it probably took me around 30 hours to complete all the exercises, maybe even more, but it was definitely worth it in the end. I was able to accurately identify my perfect careers, down to the smallest of details. That is priceless.The last sections of the book contain great information on changing careers, starting a business, dealing with handicaps, and other miscellaneous information. Once again, absolutely wonderful information here and it's worth reading even if it doesn't apply to you. There's also some bonus sections at the end that provide even further resources should you need additional help. Through and through, this book is the ONE to get for any professional individual, whether you're looking for a job or not. I had spent tons of time researching job information and soul searching on my own, paid to go to expensive career coaches, and sought advice from friends and family advice, but this book has let me make more progress in the short time it took to read and complete it then the year and a half I spent trying to learn through other methods.Save your money, save your time, pick up this book and prepare to be amazed at what you read!

A lot of good advice for job seekers. The author does not focus on a single group, such as new college grads, inexperienced workers, career changers, etc. Each chapter provides something for everyone. He strongly emphasizes the thorough and proper use of social media (LinkedIn, Facebook and any website where potential employers can learn about you). Everyone should read this chapter and take his advice seriously. The chapters that focused on more spiritual advise were not useful to me, but might be valuable to other readers.I found a lot of valuable information in the book and also got validation of some of the tactics I had already been using. Job hunting is time-consuming and expensive. The $15 or so that you will pay for this book is well worth it.

I read this, and the book, "Trading in the Zone" years ago, and "didn't get it", despite my "cute" little markings in the book, and all the highlighting. It wasn't until I sustained ALOT of pain, that I went back, and started really USING these books, and am finally truly understanding them. I NOW understand why they are considered the GOLD STANDARD in Trading psychology. NO ONE BUT MARK DOUGLAS gets it to this level, and I've studied and read "everything". Mark nails it. Unfortunately, I did not have a clue before, and thought I could use my wits and cleverness to get ahead "without" everything that he outlines. It is, and will continue to be my "Trading Mental Bible", and I will brainwash myself with this until it penetrates every synapse I have. This is truly a Must Read if you are serious about trading the markets.

I wish i would of read this book before i started my journey into trading but am glad i have read it now. Very good info on the mindset of that we should be using. Thank you Mark Douglas and your team for putting this book together. Even if you dont use this book for trading, the mindset to establish to help you look at yourself for finding peace in your life is worth the read.

Excellent guidance.... Cant beat the advice. If you are going to be trading stocks, this book should be mandatory on your shelf.

This book clearly explains how BELIEFS drive cognitive functioning. If you are interested in more accurately perceiving object reality (rather than your filtered versions of it) then this book is for you. Douglas explains how beliefs filter reality. He then goes on to explain how to manage your beliefs, such that you become more adaptive and learn faster from experience. He provides specific mechanical steps for engaging in belief change.This book is actually about becoming more fully conscious ! Douglas shows you how. Douglas confirms the findings of Ariel and Mack in the book INATTENTIONAL BLINDNESS. To appreciate this book, you really do have to understand the IB phenomenon as described in that book...An earlier reviewer quotes this from the book, poking fun at it:"Our committed expectations about the future will act as a force on our perception of market information to control its flow into our mental system in such a way as to avoid a confrontation with anything that doesn't conform with what we already believe is possible."What Douglas is saying is simple: predictions are beliefs, and you will automatically ignore data that invalidates your beliefs. Beliefs, including predictions and judgments, are in fact filtering your perception of objective reality. This means that what you believe has everything to do with what you notice or perceive.This book is actually a classic, from a layman, on cognition and cognitive process. The biggest contribution to cognitive science here is the coverage of fear and how fear narrows perception in a very dangerous way for traders. However, since trading is so psychologically demanding, it is in fact a laboratory for understanding cognition and cognitive effects produced by emotions like fear. This book is not about charting, analysis of stocks, or mathematical methods on how to cut losses and make profit. Actually it contains no single stock chart. It does address the psychology of trading in general and our own in particular. What makes it a good book is the fact that it was written by a trader not a psychologist. The author focuses on mistake we make "like compounding our losses" and the deviating effect it has on us. He discusses how fear can blind us from seeing the correct market direction. Finally, he mentions that treading is all mental and that was my experience as well. The book could have been improved by much had been accompanied by charts and common mistakes people do in shorting and going long in different markets. I would recommend it for the price, it is worth for frustrated traders.

Best book I have read on currency trading so far. Consistency is the key to successful trading. There is no consistency without discipline. Must read for all beginners.

I had the greatest pleasure of meeting Austyn Wells 5 years ago, shortly after my Father passed. Sitting with her was so profound, it was my Father, speaking to me and saying to me all that he couldn’t before he passed. I had had a very difficult childhood with my Father and my session was so incredibly healing for me AND I know for my Dad in spirit as well. Since then I have had the most wonderful opportunities of participating in some of Austyn's workshops. I am extremely excited that she has put into print a great deal of her teachings from her workshops. Austyn has told us that she wants people to know how accessible the Universe is and to know that there is a whole Universe inside us. This book is an amazing guide to accessing that Universe. The guided meditations presented with many of the chapters will take you on amazing journeys to meet your “team”, your guide(s), and angels and even and especially your loved ones in spirit. Further, it will help you strengthen your intuition, to quiet the chatter in your mind so you may know and hear the voice of your higher self, your soul. Austyn shares with us her many years of experiences and knowledge, I highly recommend this book to all.

Soul Conversations was the first time I ever got a believable answer to what is the soul. Austyn has a disarmingly straight forward, built from the ground up thesis that is based on a rich history of mediumship experience and study of universal law. The concept of the Finite and Infinite self is so accessible and empowering it opened the door so much wider for me to what the potential of spirituality can be in my life. Up until this book, understanding the soul was like nailing Jello to a wall. Austyn was somehow able to walk me through from birth to eternity in 230 pages with a level of realizations and tools to map the journey and enjoy the ride. Clearly a scholar in the field with logically unique and explainable spiritual axioms that put the invisible path into a walkable journey of self discovery. Thank you for this book Austyn. You have completely redefined what being connected means, and on many more levels than I ever imagined.

"Soul Conversations" is a beautifully written and meaningful book that guides the reader on how to recognize, listen to, connect with, and nurture your soul. When you learn how to listen and work with your soul, you have the opportunity to make well-informed choices and improve the quality of life for yourself and your family.There are various spiritual subjects discussed in this book followed by Austyn's "Divine Spark" exercises as well as 22 guided meditations, available to download, that gives the reader the opportunity to put what you have read into practice. The exercises and meditations are very well thought out and engaging.The chapter I found most helpful to me at this particular time is Chapter 9. "Cultivating Soul-Centered Relationships."
