I purchased this book to get some conceptual ideas. It was very good for that. Emery has a good imagination and her images are reproduced well. In addition to that, though, she includes informative commentary and lighting diagrams, to illustrate how each image was produced. Now I have both instruction to do similar shots, and a bunch of new ideas. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs a creativity boost.

Professional and useful suggestions to approach a sensitive photography genre. Good read.

A reference book for all those interested in the nude photographers and studio lighting. Excellent photographer reveal the secrets behind the scene and helpful tips like, some detailed "setup" diagrams, and examples of both studio and on-location shots.I great book to have on your studio.

Living Your Strengths: Discover Your God-Given Talents and Inspire Your Community, by Albert L. Winseman

From Publishers Weekly

This is the religious spinoff of Clifton's first coauthored bestseller, Now, Discover Your Strengths, which was aimed more squarely at the business world. The principles in both books are the same: individuals will be happier and more successful if they build on their strengths, rather than focusing on overcoming their weaknesses. The authors call for a "strengths revolution" in churches that will allow more congregants to feel they contribute by doing what they do best. If congregational leaders can identify members' strengths and assign tasks in harmony with those traits, they will enjoy a greater sense of connection to and satisfaction with their religious communities—something the authors suggest is in short supply. It is a simple message fleshed out by an inventory of 34 possible "signature themes." Readers can determine their own top five signature themes by using an ID code (unique to each book copy) to take an online personality test developed by the Gallup Organization. The authors' "theology of strengths" refers to Paul's sermon on "the body of Christ" (1 Corinthians) and Christ's parable of the talents, among other biblical passages. This is an action-oriented book, and taking the test will give readers a personal hook. It should appeal to religious book groups as well as individuals and church leaders.Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Living Your Strengths is the ‘Christian version’ of the acclaimed StrengthsFinder 2.0. The bottom line is that if you have read SF 2.0 or Strengths Based Leadership (the ‘executive version’) then in my humble opinion, you have absolutely no need to buy this book.A brand new book gives you access to the StrengthsFinder online assessment, which computes your top five “themes” or those natural, born-with-it talents that you productively apply the best. The book then claims that it will reveal to you how you can leverage your innate gifts to build up the church, Christian communities, and faith-based groups. Ultimately, Living Your Strengths does not accomplish what it sets out to do because (1) at its core, it does not draw a clear map of how people with specific gifts can engage their communities in specific, meaningful ways. (2) It fails to make a plausible connection between how the spiritually committed can enrich their faith communities; instead it offers superficial advice on how devoted people may add to groups in general.Living Your Strengths is not a book that you read cover to cover. Rather, after getting through the introductory material, you will tend to focus only on those talents that apply to you. Chapter 4 has a 1-2 page analysis of each theme that gives you (i) a paragraph long description of your talent (ii) Bible verses that relate to your talent (iii) action items that will help you better understand your talent. Chapter 5 then details about a dozen action items that you can employ in your personal life and your faith community for growth and service. Chapter 5 is where the potential “money is” in that it has the greatest prospects for actionable guidance. What you are left with, however, is “advice” that largely equates to common sense and things that you could easily think of on your own. For example for one of my themes (Futuristic), one suggestion was to talk to other people in my church about the future or read the Bible and pay attention to when it talks about the future (pg. 187).Moreover, this book feels forced. It seems like a marketer was looking for another segment to sell an additional StrengthsFinder book to, and this was the result. There is no legitimate connection between the themes and work in faith communities other than offering some Bible verses and general advice that is equally applicable in secular vocations. I can’t read God’s mind, but I sincerely doubt, for example, He had the “Intellection” theme in mind when He inspired the writing of Luke 2:46-47 (pg. 117).What this book does manage to do well is open your eyes to what you should be doing in your faith community: that is, scaling up what you do best and not fussing over your weaknesses (that’s what teams and delegation are for). Again, this is a point more clearly explicated in StrengthFinder 2.0 and Strengths Based Leadership. In closing, a word of advice to all potential buyers: Unless you have already taken a StrengthsFinder quiz and know your dominant themes, you must buy this book new. A new book comes with an exclusive one-time access code in the back that unlocks an online survey. Your unique survey results will then calculate what your strengths are, so that you can get the most value out of Living Your Strengths, however small that may be.

Mark Cuban invests three hours every day—not in shooting hoops with his Dallas Mavericks, not in sizing up Shark Tank deals, and not in other typical entrepreneurial endeavors—but in reading! According to the book, "Scaling Up: How a Few Companies Make It…and Why the Rest Don’t," the most important routine/habit you can develop is reading. And John Baillie (1886–1960) shares this wisdom in "A Diary of Private Prayer" (31 morning prayers and 31 evening prayers):“Leave me not, O gracious Presence, in such hours as I may today devote to the reading of books or of newspapers. Guide my mind to choose the right books and, having chosen them, to read them in the right way. When I read for profit, grant that all I read may lead me nearer to Thyself. When I read for recreation, grant that what I read may not lead away from Thee. Let all my reading so refresh my mind that I may the more eagerly seek after whatsoever things are pure and fair and true.”So…I encourage clients and colleagues to always keep reading—to keep “refreshing” your mind by reading; to honor God in your reading. Thus here’s a StrengthsFinder niche book that you might have missed, written by the father of the strengths movement and two others:“Our coauthor, Don Clifton [1924-2003], was always fond of saying that each person can do something better than 10,000 other people. The key is for individuals to discover what that something is, and then do it.”Winseman and Liesveld add, “Indeed, developing our talents into strengths requires risk. We must step out, try new things, or take a chance by doing something we may fail at—at first. But if we do not take some risks—emotionally, physically, and spiritually—we will never grow. God expects no less from us and from the Church.”How’s this for a “before and after” testimonial from a church board member?“After serving almost four years on the church board, I had yet to fully know or understand those with whom I was working. The extent of our personal knowledge about one another went little beyond being asked to ‘share your favorite movie.’“At the initiation of a new church board chair and a new executive pastor, we underwent strengths coaching, both individual and team. Everyone engaged in the process, and I learned more about my teammates in one evening than in all my previous years on the board. It was the most meaningful and significant times we’ve spent together.”If you work or volunteer in a faith-based organization, you will deeply appreciate how "Living Your Strengths" integrates the StrengthsFinder assessment with biblical insights. Example: my Top-5 strengths according to the Gallup assessment are: Focus, Responsibility, Significance, Belief, and Maximizer. So Living Your Strengths suggests three Scriptures that relate to the Focus theme: • Luke 9:51 (“…he set his face to go to Jerusalem.”) • Philippians 3:12-14 (“…I press on toward the goal…”) • Hebrews 12:1-2 (“…let us lay aside every weight…”)Similar to the other StrengthsFinder books, "Living Your Strengths" includes two- and three-page summaries of all 34 talent themes—plus Scriptures for each theme. The book also includes chapters on “The Power of the Right Fit,” “Creating Strengths-Based Congregations,” and “Discovering a Calling.” Each book also includes one unique access code to the Clifton StrengthsFinder online assessment. If you’re leading a team of staff or volunteers in a faith-based ministry or church—and blindly leading without understanding strengths—you have handcuffed half your brain and half your heart. Delegate your reading today and invite a team member to check this out.

It was worth the $24 for the online leadership strengths test that comes free with the book. But I felt it didn't get into enough detail about how to apply my strengths after identifying them. Seemed also to basically find a way to identify every personality type as a 'strength' without acknowledging that some 'strengths' (i.e. competitiveness, harmony, relator, woo) can very easily turn into problems if not kept in balance. In the end, the analysis of ones strengths is complete and very accurate but the suggestions as how to apply strengths is lacking. I'm using the online test to raise the self-awareness and personality-awareness of my team, but I'm looking for a different source as a guide to applying our strengths.

A local church offered a class involving this book. It has been a life-changing experience for me and I highly recommend it to you all. Buying the book gives you an access code to take a test (I love tests). THIS is one I doubt you can figure out and "cheat" on. You have 20 seconds to answer a question, the two answers for which are not necessarily related. Your answers are compiled and you get a list of your top five "Strengths". I though it was ridiculous until I actually did it and saw the results. Try it for yourself. I think you'll be amazed. Please do not think this has anything to do with "religion". This has to do with your LIFE! It has helped me to understand myself better. Everyone I know who has done this exercise has been transformed. Not to say they've changed, they just understand themselves much better and can deal with themselves the way they are. The boost to your self confidence will amaze you. You will understand why you behave the way you do.

This was the second of Burton's books I've read, Women of the Bible: Jael's Story: A Novel having been the first. I expressed my reservations about Burton as a biblical fiction author in that review as well.Let me start though by saying that if I was reading this book from purely a fictional standpoint it would easy receive 5 stars. It had me thoroughly engaged - I could hardly put it down! There is no doubt Burton is a gifted writer as she weaves a marvelous tale with a touching lovestory and heartwarming friendships, bad guys you love to hate, redemption and forgiveness that moves you, and heroism that inspires. Where I begin to struggle is with Burton's apparent lack of respect for the divinely inspired Word of God.Just as I felt with Jael's Story, at best Burton takes liberties - at worst she's intentionally misleading some who may not take the time to read scriptures to know any better. Deborah is a character in Jael's Story and one of the reasons I read this book next was to hear the other side of the scene I'd already read from Jael's perspective. Imagine my surprise when that section was completely glossed over and hardly touched - especially since that is the portion we have the most detail on in scripture!Other portions of scripture were barely touched and in some cases the way they were addressed felt not to align with how scripture addressed them.My other concern was the way Deborah's prophetic gifting was portrayed. Having been part of the charismatic movement for the better part of a decade and heading a prophetic ministry for five and a half years, the way she describes Deborah's gift looked nothing like how I've seen prophetic giftings flow. And even if you believe in the cessation of the gifts, it doesn't look like old testament prophecy either. It had more of a psychic flavor than prophetic to me... though I acknowledge God was given credit consistently so I was able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the story she was telling nonetheless. With my concerns so specifically noted you may be wondering why I gave it 4 stars. The concerns noted were only a portion of the biblical/spiritual aspects and the other portions were as pleasing as the fictional story itself. So if I were judging solely from this perspective I'd give it a 3 star and when averaged with the 5 star I'd give it as a work of fiction I determined 4 star was fair.At the end of the day, I'm sure I'll read it again. My hope is that Burton begins to allow her incredible talents for storytelling to fully align with the scriptures she professes to be writing about (or that she simply writes Christian fiction). I would love to read more of her work, but based on the reviews I've read on the other books in this series it seems certain they will be equally if not more frustrating from a biblical perspective as Deborah and Jael were.

Deborah sleeps in the dirt, she is a slave, she is starvedand she is beaten almost every day of her life. Her onlyfamily is the others salves she lives with. In spite ofall this she is kind and sweet. She truly loves the animalsthat she is made to take care of and she loves her slavefriends.Deborah is a seer although she does not understand her giftshe is not afraid of it. She will meet Lappidoth and he willtake her away from that horrible place that is her home.In her visions GOD will tell her that she must find Barakand lead an army against the Jew haters. The Jews are notone to believe that a WOMAN should be telling them anything.Especially about going to WAR.Deborah will become THE MOTHER OF ISRAEL. She is one ofthe greatest women in the Bible. I really liked her.Suggestion: I would like for you to read THE TRIUMPHOF DEBORAH--- by Halevy..this is the same woman buta completely different life.

I read this book on a recommendation of a friend. Since I don't usually read Christian books, I was very surprised to find how wonderful this book is. First of all, it is very evident that Ann Burton has done a lot research in order to make her books authentic. She weaves her descriptions of the geography, food, family culture and religious beliefs, seamlessly into the plot of her story and the descriptions are never intrusive. On the contrary they add richness and depth to the narrative voice. Deborah's story is both facinating and compelling. Her growth as a seer and a prophet (during a time when women were not accepted in this role), as well as her reluctance to be one, makes a wonderful story. Deborah gains wisdom, courage, and love in this wonderful book. I highly recommend it and I plan to read all the other Ann Burton Women of the Bible series.

People who criticize the author for deviating from scripture annoy me. This is FICTION. If you want to read the Bible, just read the Bible. THAT will be 100% accurate. This is a novel, you know, a work of art where someone uses his or her IMAGINATION to write STORY. It's not meant to replace the Bible, but only to spark the reader's imagination... Chillax, people. It's a great book. I love Biblical fiction. And for the record, I thought it was pretty accurate to the story of Deborah in the book of Judges.

As with the entire series. I truly loved each book. I loved the stories of the Heroic JEWISH women of the bible. Although they are not true to the bible and some characters are fictional, they do add light to those who know the bible. It makes reading the bible all the more enjoyable because you can view the bible and see what was different and have a mental picture of the characters. Maybe even after reading the bible see the character for their true selves, not what the author wanted to add to his or her story. But couldn't you have at least had a picture of a Jewish woman on the front of the books like the other I have read on women in the bible. The picture almost made me put the book back because I thought it couldn't be about what I was looking for. Please consider that, because I do love your books, but the picture on the front is deceptive.

I am a helpless romantic and I could not put the book down. It made me laugh, made me cry and I literally read it in 2 days. Loved it!!! Hoping to find the movie. I am amazed of how God is always the same. I enjoy reading books that take me back to the times when there was pure closeness with him, no interruptions, no technology, just humans, nature and God. God is the same yesterday, today and days to come. I could related so much with this book because I always wait to hear his voice in my dreams. Hope you enjoy it as well.

I was really intruiged with this book.It had a slow start but then it began to get soo good! It may not be as accurate as the word of God but I love the charcter of Deborah and the author seems to be writing it as if..maybe this did happen behind the scenes. It's a good read! I also love the cover of the book!

Never thought a book about organizing would be interesting, hilarious, beautiful, and life changing...but this one is. A pantry can be functional AND PRETTY. Taking everything out of cardboard boxes and placing them in labeled baskets and lucite turn tables? Yes please. Never have I ever taken such joy in putting an “every day” drawer together in my bathroom for eye pleasing grab and go items. The labels included in the book are upping my fridge game. Now even my coffee table is prettier with the rainbow tabbbed pages in the book! Thanks for making my house pretty and organized. Well. Done. Ladies. 👏🏻🌈

The book itself has many attractive photos. Essentially it is a book of organized spaces with suggestions. I enjoy books like this more for their inspiration than for concrete suggestions. My main disappointment is that even though the book was shrink-wrapped, there were no refrigerator labels. I know it isn't the end of the world, but when you look at the back of the book and it says "includes a starter set of labels" and the labels are mentioned in the book, that is a source of frustration.

I loved this book! It is organized by area-such as-the refrigerator, under the sink, the closet, the pantry. Not only does it spell out good ideas, but each section has lots of beautiful pictures! And since none of us have the same size pantry, closet, laundry room-it shows all different types-from “to die for laundry rooms” to a basic laundry room. Fun book to get great ideas!!!!

As someone who struggles with organization with a house of 4 kids I was so excited to get this book. However, I feel like I’m just looking at a collaboration of instagram inspirational photos telling me what everything is when I can clearly see that with the labels on everything. The biggest downfall for me is that there is no buying guide, like what’s the name of the bin, label, drawer etc. At least on Instagram you can ask questions and find out or they link the containers. I bought this book to help me organize and they have awesome organizational skills and it is funny I just would love to be able to look in the book and find the things that would fit my organizational need and then know where to go, or what to buy.

Don't think twice about buying this book. I recieved my copy today and I'm only a few pages in and I'm already obsessed. I know I'll be partially neglecting my children to read it all day. #lowbarlifestyle 😂 The kids will thank me when I no longer have to specify where every single item goes in my house, because they'll finally KNOW! So excited! The book also comes with labels that are so beautiful and I can't wait to use them!

This book is as beautiful as it is helpful! They do a fantastic job not just showing their organization creations, but also explaining how on earth to get there. I can't wait to make a stop at the container store and get started on my house! I also appreciated the section on how to achieve long term success, as I feel that's where many of us falter. Will update after I put this book to use.

The Home Edit team just made my day!!! I waited all day ( and every day since November) to get this book and finally got it. It is so impressive. I can't wait to read it cover to cover (when my kids go to bed). However, my daughter, that is 7, is very much interested in the kids play areas (and everything so colorful and ROYGBIV) and now wants to rip apart the house and start organizing! I was so afraid she was going to rip the pages while she was "tearing through" the book. I asked her if she could describe it in one word and she said "Pretty." and I will totally agree with her that it certainly is pretty and is now in my possession( and I clearly can't just use one word to describe it because I am a hoarder)! I also want to say that you have an amazing Instagram and I LOVE your stories but having your book in print in my home as a guide and to get our home in order just proves that it is extremely important to have tangible, beautiful pages to look through. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so happy that your friend Leah introduced you gals. Loved the page dedicated to her as well...really really cool! Thank you! Peace and Love, Ann and (Her Family) xoxoxo
